A Major Mission Milestone: Thrive Market Now Accepts SNAP EBT

300,000 signatures, one trip to Congress, and almost a decade later, Thrive Market is now proud to accept SNAP EBT. We’re the first online-only retailer to reach this milestone, making it that much easier for millions of families across the country to access the healthy food they need.

A little backstory: In 2016, Thrive Market partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to bring SNAP EBT online so that families across the country could get wholesome groceries delivered, no matter where they lived. More than 300,000 people across the country signed on to show their support, and we traveled to Congress to fight for what we believe is a fundamental right: access to healthy food. Now, that long-held goal is a reality.

What is SNAP EBT?

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It’s the largest federal nutrition assistance program in the U.S. that provides food benefits to low-income families. By supplementing their grocery budgets, SNAP makes it easier for families to afford the healthy food they need. 

EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) is a system that allows a SNAP participant to pay for food using their benefits. An EBT card works like a debit or credit card: A cardholder’s benefits are loaded onto their card, which they can use to purchase SNAP-eligible groceries.
