When temps dip, skin requires a little more love: But as you trade in lighter lotions for heavier, more nourishing creams and slather lips in coconut oil, don’t overlook your most versatile beauty asset—your hair.
Winter is extra rough on locks. Cold, dry air can cause delicate strands to break, using hot tools in lieu of air drying (hair will freeze if you go outside post-shower!) fries locks, and of course, there’s hat hair. Enough said.
That’s where our bright-green DIY hair mask comes in. Don’t be freaked out by the shocking hue, which comes from chlorella. This potent algae powder is chock-full of good-for-you nutrients (like most green things), but we’ve added it to this nourishing mask because of its protein, which helps repair tresses, and vitamin A content. Vitamin A reduces the effects of oxidative stress that can damage hair—think pollution, poor diet, and really tight ponytails.
Channel your inner Green living enthusiast and cover your head in the green stuff—it makes for great selfies, and when you wash it out, hair will be softer and stronger.
2 tablespoons chlorella
2 tablespoons aloe vera
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1/4 avocado
Mash all ingredients together in a small bowl. Massage into hair, completely covering from root to tip. Leave in for 10 minutes, and wash out with a smoothing shampoo.
