No matter where you live—from California to Maine—it’s time to prepare for a sweltering hot summer. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s seasonal forecast looks brutal: most of the United States will face “well above average” temperatures.
Searing summer days call for ice-cold popsicles and snow cones to cool you down. Fill your freezer with a few of these recipes—trust us, they’ll come in handy when temperatures skyrocket.
Think of these popsicles as little frozen green smoothies. Avocado and banana give them a creamy texture, while mango adds a burst of tropical tang.
Bring a fairground favorite into your own kitchen—it’s so easy! Dip peeled, frozen bananas in a vegan chocolate coating and roll them in cacao nibs, sprinkles, or chopped nuts for an ice-cold treat both kids and adults will devour.
Got some fresh fruit and coconut water in the fridge? Then you have everything you need to make refreshing ice pops. Experiment with different combinations—we like mixed berry or mango and strawberry.
Beets, watermelon, and hibiscus tea give these treats a gorgeous purple hue, and pack in tons of vitamins A and C to keep your skin glowing all summer long.
Raspados, or Mexican-style snow cones, made with fresh mango and homemade passion fruit sauce are sweet, satisfying, and free of refined sugar.
Turns out mellow and sweet vanilla chia pudding is just as tasty frozen, especially paired with berries simmered in balsamic vinegar, honey, black pepper, and sea salt.
